Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Vol 1

Posted on Updated on

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was first published by Mirage Studios in 1984 in Dover, New Hampshire. The concept arose from a humorous drawing sketched out by Kevin Eastman during a casual evening of brainstorming and bad television with Peter Laird. Using money from a tax refund, together with a loan from Eastman’s uncle, the young artists self-published a single-issue comic intended to parody four of the most popular comics of the early 1980s: Marvel ComicsDaredevil and New Mutants, Dave Sim’s Cerebus, and Frank Miller’s Ronin. The TMNT comic series has been published in various incarnations by various comic book companies since 1984.

Love the Ninja Turtles, but the recent Michael Bay Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle movie was horrendous. Never actually read comics before but it might be cool to read the earlier issues.

I haven’t seen the movie (guess I didn’t miss much, lol) , but I did enjoy the early issues in the 80’s. My run started with issue #2, which I picked up when it was released. Missed that 1st issue, damn!

I’m guessing “D***!” Means it was awesome? How expansive are those early issues on eBay of Amazon? Or maybe even in a comic store?

Ah, figured they’d be expensive. Why don’t companies re-release the earlier issues so we can read them without spending so much money? The since they’re re-released they wouldn’t be as expensive and the original copies would still be really pricy

There are trade paperbacks available on ebay for $15 – $20 that reprint the early issues. Check this link out for more info, http://community.comicbookresources.com/archive/index.php/t-298.html
